Whew chile, I’m watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta and had to pause my lemon pepper wings to ask—when did the girls start talking about “uplift”? Since when did RHOA become a platform for positive affirmations and emotional healing circles?
Back in the day (I’m talking NeNe’s quick reads, ShereΓ©’s bone-carrying days, and Kenya twirling straight into the drama), these ladies weren’t concerned with being each other’s life coaches. The only thing they were uplifting was receipts, wigs, and possibly a glass of champagne after dragging each other for filth. Now all of a sudden, it’s “let’s uplift each other,” “let’s be better women,” and “we should build a sisterhood.”
Wait a minute now… who called the kumbaya committee?
Even 20 years ago (yes, the franchise has been around that long!), it was petty boots and designer drama. Housewives were built on shade, side-eyes, and subtle sabotage, not vision boards and spiritual healing. That was the charm! We tuned in to see who was going to get read, who was going to throw the next event from hell, and which reunion look was going to trend on Twitter.
But this season? This season feels like Bravo snuck a self-help segment into the group chat.
Now don’t get me wrong, growth is beautiful. Therapy is necessary. Sisterhood is powerful. But when it’s coming from women who were just beefing over invitations and borrowed clothes, it gives confused energy. And let’s be honest, some of these “uplift” moments still have a little shade sprinkled in—like a passive-aggressive compliment with a smile.
So I ask you, loyal RHOA viewers, when did the shade turn into self-help? When did table-flipping get replaced with talk circles?
Maybe it’s the times we’re living in. Maybe Bravo's trying to rebrand. Or maybe the girls are truly evolving. But deep down, we all miss the days when a peach in the hand meant a read on the ready.
Until next time, keep your edges laid and your tea piping hot.
