Put Some Respect on My Roach’s Name! You Don’t Need 100 Celebrity Clients to Be THAT Stylist
Okay, everybody, pull up a chair because apparently we need to have a little fashion-family meeting! π☕️
I keep hearing people talk about celebrity stylist My Roach and how he only styles a few people.
And?
AND?!
Since when did you need to style half of Hollywood before people were allowed to call you successful?
Baby, sometimes having a few major clients is better than running around Hollywood with 75 people on your client list and not doing anything memorable with ANY of them.
Let’s talk about it.
My Roach Knows What He Is Doing
Whether you personally love every outfit or not, My Roach has built a name for himself in the fashion and celebrity world.
That matters.
Fashion is subjective. One person will look at an outfit and scream, “ICONIC!”
Another person will look at the exact same outfit and ask, “Who let her leave the house like that?”
That’s fashion!
But My Roach understands something bigger than simply putting expensive clothes on famous people. Styling is about creating a moment.
When your client walks onto a red carpet, people should stop.
People should talk.
People should post pictures.
People should argue.
And sometimes people should be sitting at home screaming, “WHAT IN THE WORLD IS SHE WEARING?!”
Because guess what?
You’re still talking about it!
πππ
That’s the game.
“But He Only Styles A Few People!”
This argument cracks me up.
People act like a stylist needs a celebrity client list longer than a Cheesecake Factory menu before we can take them seriously.
No!
Sometimes being selective is part of your brand.
If you have several major clients who trust your vision, repeatedly hire you and bring you into important fashion moments, you’re doing something right.
Period.
You don't need to style every actress, singer, reality star, influencer, rapper, athlete and somebody’s cousin from TikTok.
Sometimes LESS is MORE.
And honestly, working closely with fewer people can create stronger fashion partnerships.
You learn the person.
You learn their body.
You learn their personality.
You learn what photographs well on them.
You learn when to push them outside their comfort zone and when to leave that experimental outfit hanging right there on the rack.
Because every fashion risk does NOT need to see daylight.
Some of those outfits need to stay in the showroom.
π
And Then There’s Kim Kardashian...
Now this is where the conversation gets interesting.
There has been plenty of chatter surrounding Kim Kardashian and My Roach, including talk about big money being involved in bringing a major stylist into the picture.
And when we're talking tens of thousands of dollars for somebody's expertise, I'm looking around like:
“So we're still pretending this person isn't important?”
COME ON NOW!
If somebody is willing to spend serious money to have you involved in their fashion world, clearly they believe you bring something valuable to the table.
And let me say something else.
I think celebrity and stylist relationships can benefit BOTH people.
That's not an insult.
That's BUSINESS.
A major celebrity gives a stylist visibility.
A talented stylist helps the celebrity create memorable looks.
The celebrity gets photographed.
The stylist gets credited.
The fashion blogs start talking.
Social media starts arguing.
Everybody gets engagement.
Everybody gets publicity.
Everybody goes home happy.
Well...
Except the people fighting in the comments section.
They're still typing three hours later.
πππ
They Might Need Each Other
And I'm going to say something that might get me in trouble.
Maybe Kim needs My Roach.
And maybe My Roach benefits from Kim.
Why can't both things be true?
People always want entertainment relationships to have one person who is supposedly more important than the other.
But successful creative relationships are usually collaborations.
A stylist needs somebody willing to wear the vision.
The celebrity needs somebody capable of creating the vision.
That's teamwork.
If I make you look fabulous and you give my work one of the biggest platforms in entertainment, we BOTH won.
Now pass me my check.
π
Stop Measuring Success By Numbers
This is something that goes beyond My Roach.
Social media has convinced everybody that numbers are the only measurement of success.
“How many followers?”
“How many clients?”
“How many views?”
“How many celebrities?”
“How many likes?”
Baby, calm down!
Quality still matters.
Impact still matters.
Longevity matters.
Relationships matter.
Your reputation matters.
You can have one million followers and nobody wants to hire you.
Meanwhile, somebody with a fraction of your following could be booked, busy and paying every bill on time.
Who's winning then?
Exactly.
And Those Sunday YouTube Videos?
Now THIS is another reason I'm giving My Roach his flowers.
He gets online.
He talks fashion.
He gives opinions.
He gives personality.
And people watch.
Some of those videos can generate major attention and huge view counts.
That's important because today's stylist doesn't necessarily have to stay behind the scenes.
Why should they?
If you have knowledge, personality and an audience interested in hearing what you think, turn the camera on!
Talk about the clothes.
Talk about the red carpets.
Talk about Hollywood.
Talk about what worked.
Talk about what didn't.
Give us the fashion tea!
That's another form of branding.
People aren't simply following the clothes anymore.
They're following the PERSON behind the clothes.
And My Roach understands that.
My Roach Is All That and a Bag of Chips
Listen...
I could be wrong.
Fashion is subjective.
Maybe you're reading this saying:
“Spencer, absolutely NOT!”
πππ
And that's okay!
But from where I'm sitting, My Roach is all that AND the bag of chips.
Maybe even the little drink that comes with the lunch special.
I'm just saying!
You don't have to like every single thing somebody does to recognize talent.
I certainly don't love every celebrity fashion look I see.
Some outfits deserve awards.
Some deserve applause.
And some deserve to be quietly returned to the designer with a handwritten apology.
π
But when someone consistently gets people talking about fashion, that person is doing something right.
Fashion Is Supposed to Start Conversations
That's the part people sometimes forget.
Fashion isn't always supposed to be safe.
Imagine if every celebrity walked onto every red carpet wearing the same little black dress.
BORING!
Give me feathers.
Give me drama.
Give me a ridiculous train requiring four assistants.
Give me a hat so big somebody sitting three tables away can't see the stage.
Give me GLAMOUR!
Give me something!
I'd rather argue about an outrageous fashion moment than stare at another perfectly acceptable outfit that I'll forget five minutes later.
And stylists help create those moments.
Give People Their Flowers
We also have this strange habit of waiting until somebody retires before acknowledging their work.
Then everybody suddenly becomes a lifelong fan.
“Oh, they were legendary!”
“Oh, nobody did it like them!”
“Oh, they changed the game!”
Where were y'all when they were actually WORKING?
π
Give people their flowers while they're still creating.
You can critique somebody and still respect their accomplishments.
You can dislike an outfit and still acknowledge the stylist's influence.
Both things can exist at the same time.
Now I Want to Hear From YOU
Okay, I've said my piece.
Now it's your turn because I already KNOW somebody has an opinion about this.
Do you think My Roach deserves more respect as a stylist?
Does having a smaller celebrity client list matter to you?
Do you think working with someone as famous as Kim Kardashian elevates a stylist's brand, or does a great stylist elevate the celebrity just as much?
And most importantly...
Are you watching those Sunday YouTube videos?
Because I need to know who's sitting there with the snacks listening to the fashion tea with me! ππΏ
Sound off in the comments.
Agree with me.
Disagree with me.
Bring your fashion receipts.
Just keep it cute because we're talking clothes — we're not going to Fashion World War III!
And if you enjoyed this post, SHARE IT with somebody who loves celebrity fashion, Hollywood gossip and a little harmless mess.
Because around here, we don't just look at the outfit.
We want to know WHO styled it, WHY they chose it, HOW much drama it caused and WHAT everybody is saying afterward.
Now THAT'S fashion entertainment.
