We didn't know everything happening behind that video.

That's why Teresa's latest statement matters.

One loss that has been publicly documented is the death of Milania's childhood best friend Victoria Zardoya.

Victoria was only 20 years old.

She died after suffering injuries from an accidental fall while visiting the historic Fort Dade ruins in Florida. Teresa had previously spoken publicly about how devastating Victoria's death was for Milania and the entire family.

Think about that for a second.

You're 20 years old.

You're supposed to be worrying about college, dating, your career, where you're going Friday night and whether your mother is embarrassing you on Instagram.

You're not supposed to be figuring out how to bury one of your best friends.

And Teresa now says Milania has actually been grieving the deaths of two best friends. Her statement did not publicly identify the second friend.

That's heavy.

Really heavy.

Teresa Has Been Teresa for Years — But She's Still Her Mother

Now y'all know Teresa Giudice has given us enough television drama to fill about 47 reunion couches.

Tables have been flipped.

Friendships have exploded.

Family members have fought.

People have screamed.

People have stormed out.

Andy Cohen has probably developed several headaches courtesy of New Jersey alone.

But underneath all of that television chaos, Teresa is still a mother watching her daughter struggle.

That's where I think viewers have to separate Teresa the Housewife from Teresa the mother.

We can debate Teresa's behavior on television all day long.

We can argue about who's right in Jersey.

We can discuss old feuds.

We can ask whether RHONJ needs a reboot, a pause, a cast shakeup or somebody to just open the windows and let some fresh air into that franchise.

But watching your child go through severe grief isn't Housewives entertainment.

That's family.

And Yes, I'm Still Going to Say This: Stop Diagnosing People Online

This part needs to be said.

Social media loves diagnosing celebrities from videos.

Somebody gets angry?

"They're bipolar!"

Somebody cries?

"They're having a breakdown!"

Somebody acts differently?

"They must have..."

NO.

We don't know.

And unless you're Milania's medical professional, you don't know either.

What we do know is what her family and representative have publicly said: Milania has been going through an extremely difficult period, and her representative said she is surrounded by loved ones and receiving professional care and support.

That's enough information for us to understand that this situation is serious without playing Internet Psychiatrist.

Because some of y'all can't even diagnose why your Wi-Fi isn't working.

Let's start there.

The Internet Saw a Clip. The Family Saw the Whole Situation.

This is another lesson about social media.

We see moments.

Families live entire days.

We might see 45 seconds at an airport.

Teresa sees what happens before the camera comes on.

Gia sees what happens afterward.

Her sisters see the phone calls.

Her father sees another side.

Her friends see another side.

And Milania herself is the person actually living through all of it.

That's why I wasn't comfortable reducing this entire situation to, "Milania yelled at Teresa."

Yes, there was an upsetting public exchange.

But now we're learning there was much more happening behind it.

Context doesn't magically erase behavior, but context can help us understand it.

And this context is heartbreaking.

Reality TV Kids Grow Up in a Very Strange World

There's another conversation here that I think Housewives fans need to have.

Milania didn't exactly volunteer for fame as an adult.

We met her when she was a child.

Millions of viewers watched Teresa's daughters grow up on television.

People remember little Milania being outspoken, hilarious and completely unfiltered.

She became a memorable part of RHONJ without ever holding a Housewife peach, diamond, snowflake or whatever New Jersey would hold.

A sprinkle cookie?

Now THAT would be appropriate.

But seriously, imagine growing up and having strangers believe they know you because they watched you as a child.

Then imagine experiencing tragedy while those same strangers are analyzing your behavior on TikTok, Instagram, Reddit and everywhere else.

That has to be an unusual amount of pressure.

Teresa Asking for Privacy Is Going to Get Mixed Reactions

Now here's where the reality-TV debate gets messy.

Whenever a famous family asks for privacy, somebody inevitably says:

"Well, you've been putting your life on television!"

And technically, I understand why people make that argument.

Reality stars make money sharing portions of their personal lives.

But appearing on reality television doesn't mean the public owns every moment of your life forever.

There still has to be a boundary.

Especially when grief and someone's well-being are involved.

You can be curious.

You can discuss publicly confirmed information.

You can even criticize things that happen publicly.

But there is a difference between discussing the story and turning somebody's pain into entertainment.

And this story crossed that line for me.

Where Is Joe Giudice in All This?

Milania's father, Joe Giudice, has also publicly addressed what his daughter has been experiencing.

Joe described it as an incredibly painful and very difficult period for Milania and emphasized the grief she has been carrying.

So despite whatever history Teresa and Joe have between them—and LORD KNOWS that history could fill another ten seasons of RHONJ—it appears that the focus right now is their daughter.

And that's exactly where it should be.

Because sometimes the family group chat needs to stop discussing old drama and start asking:

What does this person need right now?

My Take: This Isn't the Time for Housewives Team Sports

Housewives fans LOVE teams.

Team Teresa.

Team Melissa.

Team Margaret.

Team Whoever Is Mad at Whoever This Week.

But I'm not picking a team here.

I'm Team Let This Young Woman Heal.

That's it.

Milania is 20.

She's grieving.

Her family says she's been through significant psychological trauma.

She's reportedly receiving professional support.

That's where this story needs some humanity.

Because you can dislike Teresa Giudice and still have compassion for her daughter.

You can love Teresa and still recognize that you don't know every detail of what's happening.

And you can be a reality-TV blogger—yes, even a messy one like me—and recognize when the tea needs to stay in the kettle.

Because sometimes there ain't no tea.

Sometimes people are hurting.

Final Thoughts

Teresa Giudice has spent years letting viewers into some of the most complicated chapters of her family's life.

We've watched marriages.

Legal problems.

Family feuds.

Children growing up.

Heartbreak.

Arguments.

Reconciliations.

And enough screaming matches to make somebody's neighbors put their house on Zillow.
